Today the Family and Social Services Administration's (FSSA) Division of Mental Health and Addition (DMHA) announced that it has received a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to fund the Child Mental Health Initiative (CMHI) of Southeastern Indiana. The CMHI is a system of care development that will serve eight counties in rural southeastern Indiana. The grant will fund the project to run through 2014, with a total projected award of $6.3 million.
"This grant will allow us to enhance the services we are able to provide to children up to the age of 21 who are affected by serious emotional disturbances in southeastern Indiana," said DMHA Director Cathy Boggs. "We are excited about this new opportunity to serve children and families and hope that it will greatly benefit the families who participate."
When fully operating, the CMHI of Southeastern Indiana will allow DMHA to serve 140 children and families at a time and is expected to serve up to 550 families over the funding period. The CMHI will work to further develop mental health services by expanding on traditional and non-traditional services, including the implementation of evidence-based practices for special populations of the zero- to five-year-old population, as well as transitioning youth who have co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders and those with trauma histories.
DMHA, as the lead agency, will work on the project with the Community Mental Health Agency of Lawrenceburg, which will act as fiscal agent, and One Community One Family, which will provide operational oversight. The CMHI of Southeastern Indiana will serve Ripley, Ohio, Dearborn, Switzerland, Franklin, Decatur, Jennings and Rush counties.
