INside Out: Song/Jingle Tips

The Song or Jingle

So, you want to write a song or jingle that centers on INShape Indiana and its three initiatives of nutrition, physical activity, and avoiding tobacco, but you’re not sure how to start because you’ve never even so much as tapped a drum, right? Don’t worry about it, because you don’t even need to accompany your song with music.

We encourage you to tap, freestyle, rap, ring, rock, or punk your way through a one to three minute song or jingle. We’ll accept any style of music—including an unaccompanied vocalization with no music. All you have to do is record it and send it to us on a CDR with a legible copy of the song’s lyrics.

If you’re still not sure of how to start, or need additional help, here is list of Web sites that are certain to bring out your inner-Mozart.

Sites That Will Help You Create Your Song or Jingle

“But what if I don’t have access to recording equipment?”

  • See if your school’s audio video department, or radio and TV teacher, will grant you access to their equipment.
  • Check and see if your school or local library has audio recording equipment that they loan out.
  • See if a store in your neighborhood has an inexpensive audio recorder that fits within your budget.
  • Do you own a digital camcorder? Try using a camcorder to record your song.
  • Most camcorders have excellent audio recording capabilities.
  • Ask a friend, relative, or neighbor if the own, or have access to, audio recording equipment that you can use for a school project.
