Second only to families, schools could do more to improve the health of children and youth in Indiana than any other institution. Healthy children learn better; and healthy school employees are more productive and content. But schools alone can?t improve health. Families, health care providers, government agencies, community organizations, universities and community colleges, businesses, media, and others concerned about children can work together with schools.
Healthy Schools, Healthy Indiana will showcase means and resources to do so, especially to reduce obesity and tobacco use. Interested education, health, and social service agency staff in public, non-profit, and private-sector agencies are invited to attend, as is the public.
The Summit will archived on Governor Daniels' INShape Indiana Website for those who may not be able to travel to the Summit. The Indiana Department of Education will provide Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as appropriate. The Summit will launch an ongoing effort to assure that Indiana students and school employees are among the healthiest in the nation.
