Why is physical activity important for persons with disabilities?
The Surgeon General’s Report showed that diseases related to a lack of physical activity are major causes of disability and death in the United States
Aerobic activity increases endurance, improves the function of the heart and lungs, reduces the risk of developing diseases of the heart and blood vessels including coronary artery disease, and high blood pressure
Strength training improves strength, bone health, and overall daily function
Stretching exercises can improve range of motion, reduce muscle soreness, reduce spasticity, and improve movement
