WetlandsReservoir properties were created for recreation, resource management and flood control. On reservoir properties, we manage to encourage a wide variety of habitats. Biologists manage the resources; interpreters tell the stories. When you visit a reservoir property, look for these features that indicate multiple use and resource management:

  • Food plots that provide corn, sorghum and cover for both game and non-game animals.
  • Wetland construction/restoration.
  • Fence row management to provide wildlife cover/habitat.
  • Timber management to ensure healthy forests.
  • Prescribed burns to maintain open areas and native grasses.
  • Crop lease programs; farmers plant crops and leave 10% standing for use by wildlife.
  • Waterfowl surveys.
  • Fish management and stocking.
  • Hunting in season.
  • Placement of bluebird houses, wood duck boxes and other nesting structures.
  • Resource inventories, identifying unique plants and wildlife.
  • 2009 State Parks Deer Reduction Information
