Huntington Courthouse Rotunda - Huntington County

From the time we receive an application in the office, it usually takes between six month to a year to get a property listed in the National Register of Historic Places. An application undergoes a series of technical and substantive reviews to assure that it meets National Register criteria. Once accepted by the DHPA staff, the application is presented to the Indiana Historic Preservation Review Board for their approval at one of their quarterly meetings. You will be notified of the date, time, and location of the meeting. Upon the Review Board's recommendation, the application is then forwarded to the National Register for their review. The DHPA will notify you when you property has been listed. To learn more about the National Register of Historic Places go to http://www.cr.nps.gov/NR/

The application process for the State Register is much less cumbersome. The applicant must submit a letter from the property owner stating that they would like the property listed on the State Register, color photos of both the exterior and interior of the property, and a brief history of the property including an explanation of why the property is eligible. Submit the application to the DHPA at the address below.
