The BMV offers state identification cards for persons of any age. The card looks similar to a standard driver license except that it is clearly marked "Non-driver ID" at the top.
Also, please be aware of the following:
- An applicant for a new Indiana operator license who holds a valid photo license issued by another state, the District of Columbia or U.S. Territory must successfully pass a written and vision test.
- If the out-of-state license is expired over one year, a drive test will be required, in addition to the applicant successfully passing a written and vision test.
- If an applicant is less than 18 years of age, they must have an appropriate family member sign the financial responsibility portion of the application.
- Licenses from foreign countries are no longer accepted as identification or proof of driving experience.
- Only original documents, or those certified by the issuing agency, will be accepted. The BMV reserves the right to refuse any identification presented by the applicant that BMV personnel may find questionable. Altered documents will not be accepted. All documents must contain the applicant's name and each document must be in the English language or contain an English translation.
